Ngakane steps down as Meropa manager
After 25 years of dedication to Sun International, Meropa Casino and Entertainment World general manager, Clifford Ngakane, has decided to call it a day.
POLOKWANE – After 25 years of dedication to Sun International, Meropa Casino and Entertainment World general manager, Clifford Ngakane, has decided to call it a day.
Ngakane announced that he would be stepping down from his position by the end of August as he wanted to focus on his private businesses.
In an interview with Review, Ngakane revealed some of plans for the future. “It was long overdue, I have been an employee for 25 years. It was time I focused on my private businesses. I have a lodge in Dalmada, Eltasha Guest Lodge, which I need to pay more attention to and start marketing myself,” he explained.
“I am also building a new lodge in North West, 15km away from Sun City. I am turning my mom’s old house in North West into a beautiful 10-roomed guest lodge.
“I am not completely getting out of the gambling industry. I will be tapping into the gambling industry in a different form with V-slots machines, which I want to introduce in rural areas,” he further said.
He said his resignation had nothing to do with the current retrenchments taking place at the casino. The casino is in the process of restructuring, which is why some personnel are being retrenched, he said, adding that this process was almost completed.
“I am a bit scared and sad to be leaving something I love and that I have been doing almost all my life, but it is time for change; time to be my own boss and grow my businesses,” he concluded.
