MISS Limpopo 2013, Sheila Mmutle, donated sanitary towels to the Soul Buddyz group of Selala Primary School in the remote area of Ga-Selala, Burgersfort on Monday.
Mmutle said the donation formed part of the project she established last year. She said the Pad Me Up campaign, run by her and HipHopCaresSA, was super exciting and successful. “We are now looking forward to doing a school shoe donation around Burgersfort on Thursday and another sanitary pad donation at Grace and Hope School in Seshego on Friday.
“I was inspired by my former teacher to establish projects that will assist people in the community,” said Mmutle. She added that the project would not be a success if it were not for companies and individuals who assisted with donations.
She thanked Meropa Casino and Entertainment World, Town Lodge Polokwane and many others for assisting with the project.
“We are slowly but surely shaping our world and even though we can never change the whole world, we will certainly touch that one heart and that is all that matters,” she said.
Asked why she chose to donate sanitary towels, Mmutle said children spent about 80% of their time at school and it was embarrassing for girls to start menstruating during school hours knowing that they did not have sanitary towels with them.
“We did not donate these towels to an individual but rather to the school so that learners can get help when they need it most,” she said.
She further said the project still needed sponsorship to be able to donate goods to disadvantaged children and assist other schools where needed. Anyone who is willing to donate goods or assist the project financially can contact Mmutle at 072 236 0334.
