Trolleys dash off to help raise money for cancer

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) held its annual Cansa Trolley Challenge at the Peter Mokaba Stadium's parking lot on Saturday, where more than 50 teams took part.

POLOKWANE – The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) held its annual Cansa Trolley Challenge at the Peter Mokaba Stadium’s parking lot on Saturday, where more than 50 teams took part.

According to Martel Daniels, Cansa Trolley Challenge organiser, the challenge was used as a team building exercise, and was mostly attended by companies.

“We managed to raise about R40 000 and each team had to enter with R750 to be part of the challenge. The challenge was also attended by learners,” he said.

Daniels said the challenge was preparation for the Cansa Relay For Life, which will take place in October.

Proceeds of the challenge will go towards Cansa and will be used to assist those fighting cancer.

The Polokwane Ovals team participated in the challenge and also did the Ice Bucket Challenge after the trolley challenge.

Haccum Hough, one of the Polokwane Ovals team members, said they nominated an oval team from Pretoria for the Ice Bucket Challenge, and they would do the challenge during the National Oval Track Racing Championships on Saturday.

The Far North Plastics team was announced as the winners of the Cansa Trolley Challenge, walking away with R2 000.
