SESHEGO – THE Easy Waves roadshow hit Seshego Circle Centre recently and residents enjoyed all the company had to offer.
Easy Waves offers a range of hair care products that was specially formulated for African hair. The company travelled through South Africa with the Can’t Touch This roadshow to introduce their #EasyWavesRocks competition and it was Seshego’s turn recently.
Daniella Hess, spokesperson for Easy Waves, said the roadshow was the company’s way to reach out to the community.
“We spent all day in Seshego and hosted fun events like hair styling workshops, fun photo booths, give-aways, special entertainment and the highly anticipated Style-a-Thon where local stylists worked throughout the day to create the best hairstyles. The fun part of the Style-a-Thon was that residents could play models for the day to show off the stylists’ work,” she said.
“The winning stylist walked away with R20 000 and the model with the best hairstyle will be the face of the Easy Waves bill board in Seshego.”
“The aim of the competition is to encourage women to be proud of their natural hair and inspire confidence in each other by sharing their selfies. The project aims to empower stylists and to build relationships within communities,” he said.
Seshego’s Lesiba Mashao won first prize in the stylists’ competition, while Mary Chabalala become the face of the Easy Waves billboard campaign in Polokwane.
“I am so happy that I won this prize. I came into this competition fully prepared and I told myself that I would win. I learned a lot from my stylist colleagues and I now know which of my techniques need improvement. This prize will help me to look after my son,” Mashao said.
Jeward Maphoto, a celebrity hair stylist who was a judge at the Style-a-Thon, said it was special to work with local stylists.
“The criteria for this competition were very strict. We checked the competitors’ technique and the procedures that they followed. We also scored them on creativity, presentation and the overall final style,” he said.
The runners-up of the stylists’ competition, who won R5 000 each, were Cynthia Nyathi of Synagogue Hair and Beauty Salon, Prince Mukwevho of Seshego Hair Salon, Lekuka Maphoto of Renee Beauty Salon and Veronica Ziyaba of B.M. Corner Salon.
