Corruption in play

POLOKWANE – THE city of Polokwane seems to experience an exceptionally good year when it comes to the arts, especially with the Mapungubwe Arts Festival that kicks off on Saturday.
Get Down Productions, in partnership with Mahuma Arts and Communications regularly bring new stage productions to the city and last week the musical, Up Front, received standing ovations at the Library Gardens Auditorium.
Up Front is the brainchild of well-known playwright Paul Rapetsoa and his son, Matome, is the director of this masterpiece.
Matome, who is also the chief executive officer of Mahuma Arts and Communications, says the play highlights the notion that corruption is not about government as an entity, but rather about individuals who abuse their positions.
He says the play uses upbeat music and a thought provoking story line to bring the scourge of corruption to people’s attention.
According to Matome, the cast and crew of Up Front are very excited to be a part of the Mapungubwe Arts Festival this year.
“We will perform two of our plays on December 8 as part of the Mapungubwe Arts Festival,” he said.
Paul Rapetsoa plays at Mapungubwe:
• Our Cry, a play about women and child abuse, will play at the Library Gardens Auditorium on December 8 at 15:00. Entrance is free of charge.
• Up Front will play at the Library Gardens Auditorium on December 8 at 19:00. Entrance is free of charge.
“We want to encourage all residents to come to see these two stage musicals and to enrich their lives with the music and message of these musicals,” Matome said.
