Hip hop DJ wants to make music for difficult times

A YOUNG hip hop DJ from Thohoyandou, Mpho "Don P" Rambuda, is slowly carving out his name in the annals of the music industry.

THOHOYANDOU – A YOUNG hip hop DJ from Thohoyandou, Mpho “Don P” Rambuda, is slowly carving out his name in the annals of the music industry.

He says his love for hip hop forces him to push the envelope when it comes to his career, because DJ’s who play house music have a wider audience.

Although it is familiar with most South African music genres, Don P wants to promote and develop Vhembe hip hop.

Don P has been in the industry for almost a decade now and says he started his career with small gigs at house parties. Today he is well known at popular clubs and major events.

However, he does not pin all his hopes on his music career and stresses the importance of education.

The intrepid DJ holds a diploma in human resources from the Vhembe FET College and wants to enrol at the Tshwane University of Technology where he plans to study toward a degree in public administration.

For Don P, there are no taboos when it comes to his obsession with hip hop music.

“I will make no compromises. Hip hop is in my soul. That is why many refer to me as the finest hip hop DJ in the Vhembe district. My goal is to become one of the most successful DJs in the province and to help younger DJs develop their talent,” he says.

“I want to make music that people will love and that will touch them on a deeper emotional level. We all have songs that help us through difficult times and I want to produce music that will do that for others.”
