Model talks about self love
BEAUTY is more than just being a size zero and make-up, it is about being comfortable in your own skin and not being ashamed of your scars, says Muofe Mudau (24) a model from Hamutsha village outside Thohoyandou.
THOHOYANDOU – BEAUTY is more than just being a size zero and make-up, it is about being comfortable in your own skin and not being ashamed of your scars, says Muofe Mudau (24) a model from Hamutsha village outside Thohoyandou.
Muofe says she started modelling when she was in primary school and participated in several beauty pageants.
She is a finalist in the Miss Limpopo beauty pageant and says this is by far her biggest achievement.
“Being a part of the pageant is a journey of self discovery. I have learned to be comfortable with my body and that it is okay to give something to someone who can only repay you with a smile,” she says.
Muofe says she embraces the culture of giving and wishes more people will take part in charity work and help those who are in need.
She says she is grateful for the Miss Limpopo experience and will not stop with her community outreach work after the pageant, because she has seen a need for caring for those who are less fortunate.
“I visit the homes of people that are affected by poverty and motivate the children to never give up on their dreams.
“The biggest challenge of community projects is to find sponsors. Some people promise you the world, but do not always keep their promises. I do my best to not disappoint people,” she says.
Muofe says she has learned so much as a model and she wants to share her experiences with aspiring models.
“Being a model does not matter what size you are or where you come from. People need to stop believing that they need to be skinny and tall to make it in modelling.”
She says she uses her modelling career as a platform to motivate young people who are affected by poverty.
She encourages them to stay in school and take part in social activities and to avoid destructive behaviour.
