THE University of Limpopo hosted a library orientation event for the first-year students last week.
Lekau Thosago, the library orientation coordinator, said the orientation was conducted to familiarise the new students with the library and to teach them how to use the resources available in the library.
“The library is the heart of the university and students must make use of it not only for academic purposes, but also for leisure by reading magazines and newspapers,” said Thosago.
He said he welcomed the new students and hoped that they enjoyed their time on campus and took their studies seriously.
Lucas Seabi of the library’s information services, said it was important for the new students to know how the library operated before they started with classes.
He said the information they gathered from the library would be useful when they prepared for tests or assignments.
“We want them to learn how to search for information using the computers, how to locate books and how to write and submit their school work with a compute,” said Seabi.
He encouraged all students to attend the orientation week every year as there were many things they needed to know such as how to operate the photocopy machine.
Rachel Maupye, library assistant, said she wished the first-year students well in their studies.
“They must work hard, be committed and be selective when they choose friends. They must avoid bad company and make use of the library,” advised Maupye.
