Rabs Vhafuwi takes his place in music circles

RABELANI Madula has finally made his mark in the music industry as a DJ.

RABELANI Madula has finally made his mark in the music industry as a DJ.

Rabs Vhafuwi, as he is popularly known, was born in Dzimauli Mukondeni outside Thohoyandou.

He holds a B-Tech degree in production management from the Vaal University of Technology and a national diploma in foundations management from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

“I started to play with CDJs in 2008, then I perfected them in 2009 when I bought my own. In 2012, I started to produce my own music. My first single, which was released online, was Fundudzi, a song that featured my mother, Vho-Sarah on vocals. I released my 14-track debut album, Count Your Blessing in December and it will hit music stores on February 7.

“It’s already available on iTunes,” says Rabs.

“Music is and has always been my passion. I love what I do and I can see people love me, so I am counting my blessings.”

He says that, as he grew up in a rural area, he was not exposed to many DJs.

“I look up to DJs such as Revolution and Oskido. It never really came to my mind that I would one day find myself on their path. I have many goals, I would like to prove to the world that no matter where you come from, determination and working hard can take you anywhere,” he says.

Rabs says he has a recording label called Freeze The Moment Productions and he would like to develop young artists.

“I am passionate about community development and would like to assist artists from poor communities.”

He says he is motivated by the daily challenges he faces.

“The challenges we come across as artists include promoters disappearing with your money and others trying to take advantage of you,” he concludes.
