Takalani Sesame enters digital age

YOUNG children will no longer have to wait for television repeats of the award-winning children's programme, Takalani Sesame, as the repeats are now available on YouTube.

YOUNG children will no longer have to wait for television repeats of the award-winning children’s programme, Takalani Sesame, as the repeats are now available on YouTube.

Takalani Sesame has launched its YouTube channel to improve first early childhood development in South Africa.

The channel will upload daily segments that have already aired on the public broadcaster in five languages, IsiZulu, Tshivenda, Sepedi, Afrikaans and English.

These segments will range from 30 seconds to five minutes per segment, making it ideal for short lessons and bite-sized education sessions.

Lerato Nomvuyo Mzamane, head of education, research and outreach at Takalani Sesame, says the YouTube venture is one of Takalani Sesame’s involvements in the modern digital resolution.

“Learning and teaching in the 21st century should be guided by a combination of innovative methodologies that have stood the test of time in education and by a digital transformation that uses ever-enriched tools, resources and skills to make education more efficient and effective,” says Mzamane.
