MUZO Brothers lead singer and fashion consultant, Mahlatze “Muzo” Matji is venturing into new music genres and last week released a new single, Follow, which has received positive feedback from radio stations and fans alike.

Follow is Mahlatze’s first Afro-pop fused with contemporary African house music, a new direction given his history with traditional Afro-pop which has earned him a lot of fans across Limpopo.

He has also previously worked with Limpopo legend Selaelo Selota.

Mahlatze, who like many of his peers left Polokwane for improved music opportunities in Gauteng, says he decided to challenge himself by testing the new sound and style and has also changed his wardrobe to suit the music.

“My new single Follow will separate me from the rest of the artists in the same genre. With this one I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, and see myself as an artist representing South Africa in Africa and not just as a Limpopo artist,” he explains.

He says Follow is an inspirational song encouraging people to dream and ensure that such dreams are turned into reality.

His album titled I do music, is due for release in July and will feature several inspirational songs.

This stylish musician who is known for his go-getter attitude admits that building a musical career in Johannesburg isn’t an easy task.

“The idea of coming to Jozi was always nice, but the competition is just enormous and requires one to work even harder. Getting played on radio stations is also hard because there are a lot of other talented musicians dropping off their music. I am just glad I have some luck and the will to survive,” he says.

Mahlatse said he would be doing a Limpopo radio station tour this week. The tour will allow his fans in Limpopo to have a chance to listen to him and interact with him in interviews.

“Sometimes we become famous and forget the people that matter most in our careers, which are the fans. I will be in Limpopo to promote the single and the upcoming album,” he says.

“I’m doing it for myself and my fans and also my province, although as Limpopo artists we do not getting much support from our Limpopo government,” he adds.
