Papic not leaving Polokwane City FC: matter is laid to rest

POLOKWANE – FOLLOWING speculation that Polokwane City FC might part ways with head coach, Costadin Papic, the team has put the matter to rest, reiterating its strong relationship with the Serbian mentor.

Papic, who joined the Limpopo giants last season, has transformed the club into a force to be reckoned with, guiding the team to some of the significant victories in the cut-throat Absa Premiership league.

Addressing the media last weekend during a press conference held at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, the club’s top brass reaffirmed Papic’s tenure into the next season.

The club’s chief operations officer, Tincy Tema, said: “We would like to put it on record that Polokwane City FC has a contract with the current coach Kostadin Papic, which is still running until the end of June 2015. The club has a one year option to renew it. The club has exercised its right and has renewed the contract with (Mr) Papic which means that he will still be coaching the club in the coming 2015/16 season.

“We therefore want to put it on record that he is going nowhere and we are not negotiating his exit as it appeared in one of the newspapers. The club was highly disturbed and concerned about the rumours that we are in talks with one of the club’s previous coaches, Vladislav Heric. The truth is: the club has never and doesn’t have the ambition of negotiating with coach Heric.

“Our view is that these were just rumours which were intended at destabilising the team, while it also did not sit well with the coach, supporters, sponsors and the people of Polokwane as a whole”.

Tema added that: “We chose not to dwell on how much damage this has caused on the team; we however, request that in future, members of the media should contact the team to verify whatever information they might be having about the team. It has always been the policy”.

Papic joined Rise And Shine mid last season as a replacement for Boebie Solomons as the club’s fortunes were dwindling.

Papic, who was born at Novi Sad has a remarkable coaching career in South African, guiding big name teams like reining league champions Kaizer Chiefs, their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, Maritzaburg United and Chippa United.
