Fashion brightens up Youth Month with ‘Street Sass’

LIMPOPO – GIYANI residents were recently treated to a street fashion show, which was building up to the fourth annual Giyani Fashion Show.

Organised by Kate Chauke of K8 Lukz Events, the fashion show will take place on Saturday at the Giyani Community Hall.

Bright, trendy clothes and gorgeous models lit up the street famous for its buy, braai and chill vibes at Mangombe Butchery in Section A.

Patrons had a braai while they enjoyed funky street fashion by Doggy Wear by DJ Gami Swaga and Nico Style by Nicholas Mutambo.

“I was raised by my grandmother who instilled a spirit of entrepreneurship in me. It led me to study entrepreneurship though I was forced to leave due to some challenges. I stayed home for two years and finally got involved in sales and marketing jobs for five years,” said Chauke.

Completely bored and frustrated, Chauke had a burden in her soul to pursue her true passion; organising events.

“Trying to figure out what kind of events to go for, I didn’t have to think too long or too hard about where my interests lay or what made me tick, which is fashion.”

Daring to organise her first fashion show in 2012 with no experience, Chauke was overwhelmed by the support of family, friends and business people who came on board as sponsors.

Local designers were also excited to have a platform to showcase their talent.

K8 Lukz Events has since hosted 10 fashion shows, some in other provinces.

The drawcard for the Giyani Fashion Show is that it caters to everyone’s needs. Dancers also showcased their best moves along with DJs.

“Besides organising events, I work as a stylist and private fashion buyer. My goal with the Giyani Fashion Show is to celebrate young people, so it’s not a coincidence that these events take place in Youth Month.

“In the near future I will celebrate them more by having my very own boutique and modelling agency,” Chauke explained.
