When it comes to the transport industry the new 19-seater Citroën Relay Taxi offers the key factors and more to ensure a reliable, cost effectiveness and safe journey for the driver and passengers.
The Relay Taxi is a new player in the minibus taxi market and is setting up a strategy to become a significant player with a 15-, 16- and 19-seater buses.
Manufactured in Italy, the vans are shipped to Citroën in France, which in turn exports them to South Africa. Bustruck Conversions adapts them in line with South African Government regulations for minibus taxis by fitting windows, a strengthened floor, seats with seat belts, and radios. Importantly, all models have driver and front passenger airbags.
Safety was priority during the manufacturing of the Relay Taxi and Citroën ensured that every seat has a seat belt and big side mirrors warrant a wide view to the rear. Side mirrors are also equipped with an indicator to make sure that motorists can see clearly when the driver needs to turn or switch lanes.
The Relay Taxi has big and stylish headlights to ensure visibility during the day and more clarity during night.
Citroën Sales Manager, Baan van Zyl said the Relay Taxi is much cheaper to maintain than its rivals in the same segment.
“The Relay Taxi is equipped with only one wheel on each side at the rear. Unlike its competitors with four wheels, only two tyres would need to be replaced. It is also fuel efficient with low CO² emissions,” Van Zyl said.
The 19-seater boasts a powerful 3,0-litre diesel engine with 130 kW at 3 600 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1 400 rpm. Combined fuel consumption is measured at 9 litres per 100 km and with a 90 litre fuel tank the Relay Taxi in bound to take anyone long distances.
The 15-seater is equipped with a 2,2-litre diesel engine boasting 81 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque. Fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox the Relay taxi offers a combined fuel consumption of 8,2 litre per 100 km.
As in the 19-seater the, the 16-seater is also equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox but also hosts a 2,2-litre engine under the hood. The 16-seater has 96 kW of power to offer at 3 500 rpm and boasts 320 Nm of torque at 2 000 rpm.
The Relay Taxi weighs in at just over 2,1 ton and with a length of almost 6,4 m and towing capacity of 2 ton there is more than enough space for passengers and their baggage to enjoy a safe journey.
The 19-seater Relay Taxi comes standard with speed limiter, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA) and remote central locking.
The Relay Taxi is available from MGM Motors Citroën Polo-kwane at R455 000. Visit their showroom at 104 Landdros Maré Street or contact the sales team on 015 287 9660.
