The enthusiasm shown by attendees of Church On The Hill (Coth) Polokwane branch’s recent second Annual Wellness Day firmly put the event on the church’s annual calendar.
Malesela Maubane, Spokesperson for Coth, says in a media release that even the chilly weather could not deter churchgoers from descending on the church premises at Plot 2, Dalmada. “The event also attracted Coth Polokwane non-members and the significance of the event is that it was also hosted against the backdrop of the branch’s 6th year anniversary celebrations,” Maubane informed.
Activities on that Saturday morning included a 5 km walk and aerobics, whilst representatives of Herbal Life were on hand to give advice on diet and weight management. There were prizes on offer in the form of medals and water bottles, awarded in the kids, youth, women and men categories, which are also aligned with the church’s ministries.
Vusi Mashabane, senior pastor of Coth Polokwane, is quoted to have said that the Wellness Day is a way of ensuring that besides spiritual fitness, congregants are also physically fit.
“As we are building a City Church, it is important that we play and pray together. The Wellness Day is a way of ensuring that congregants are also physically fit and is part of our social contribution, as a healthy body equals to a healthy mind,” he said.
According to the statement, Tlou Mooka, who only joined the church in April 2017 and was a prize winner in the youth category said, “I have found a spiritual home at Coth Polokwane and I am glad that I have joined the purple nation.”
Shimi Phasha said, “We are rejuvenated and we are indeed touching our revival. I felt lighter after doing the 5 km walk and an intensive outdoor aerobics class.”
An elated fitness fanatic, Mike Moutlana said, “Wow, what an awesome event. Excellence was at display and this is indeed a way of building a City Church, as this is part of fellowship.”
The Polokwane branch has also introduced a soccer team, with plans afoot to introduce other sporting codes and to have another Wellness Day to welcome spring.
