Limpopo Beauty Modelling Academy celebrated Christmas with 140 children residing at Ga-Maboi Drop-in Centre in the Mankweng area last week.
The academy, represented by its owner and director Katryn Celliers accompanied by a number of models, donated Christmas gifts, sweets packets, food and sanitary products to the children. The children are fed by the centre every morning and afternoon as their families can only afford to give them one meal per day.
Celliers said the gifts included baby dolls, Barbie Dolls, make-up play sets, beaded jewellery sets, transformer robots, cars, and many more. There were also a number of pairs of school shoes and clothing packets and bikes. “It was indeed a day to remember for these children. We would like to thank each and every contestant of the Queen of the North pageant for their toys donations. Miss Beauty WIth a Purpose, Abbygail Smit raised the most gifts and she said it warmed her heart to be the reason for so many smiles and cheerful giggles,” Celliers said.
She stressed that the beauty with a purpose pageant was one of their sole reasons for hosting beauty pageants. “Creating role models in our community who will each continue with their own charity initiatives long after handing over their title, is how we envision sustainability to bring about positive change in our community, especially in rural areas where there is little and often no support. This is my legacy. Queen of the North is merely one of our many pageants and with each event we inspire all the beauty queens to make a difference by donating towards our various charity drives.”
She also added that as Miss Limpopo 2012 she took a big number of charities under her wing and she has supported them ever since. “I am humbled by the amazing support I have received with all my pageants and charity initiatives. Together we can make a difference,” concluded Celliers.
