Learners from various primary schools in the city and Seshego had an opportunity to read books and novels to their educators and peers at the annual Excite Your Mind Book Festival held in Polokwane on Saturday.
The learners also had the opportunity to meet with renowned authors who were eager to share their reading and writing skills with the pupils.
Kamogelo Legodi, a learner from Letlotlo Primary School in Seshego said the platform allowed them to explore different books and appreciate the concept of reading. “It was a fruitful day, I learned a lot about books. We learnt that if we read often often our vocabulary will become more eloquent and knowledgeable,” Kamogelo said.
Dimpho Legodi from Peakanyo Primary School said the festival gave her a taste of the reading world. “I don’t read a lot and only read my academic books when preparing for an exam or assignment. The festival gave me a different perspective on reading be it for leisure or for academic purposes,” Dimpho said.
Founder of the festival, Thabitha Maphalle said they were happy to reach out to all learners. “This is an initiative that strives to increase the culture of reading and writing. We want learners to be able to read and help us inculcate the culture of reading with their peers,” Maphalle said.
