What2Watch: This week’s worth-the-watch

Here is Review’s rundown of what to stream on Showmax and Netflix this week.

POLOKWANE – Streaming services such as Showmax and Netflix have made it possible to watch your favourite series or movies on demand, whenever you want to.

This however makes it even more difficult to decide between the magnitude of options available – that’s where we come in.

Review has put together a list of shows you should stream on your favourite platform.

What to Watch this week on:

Showmax:

Series: Tali’s Joburg Diary

Tali is coming home. Economy class. What. The. Actual.

Having shared her wedding in Tali’s Wedding Diary and then her pregnancy in Tali’s Baby Diary, Tali is moving back to Joburg in Season 3, determined to get Jayden into the premium preschool, Little Angels Hyde Park, and reclaim her crown, or at the very least the title of Class Mom. But planning a wedding and even giving birth have nothing on moving back in with your parents. Especially when you’re already at your wits’ end after years of baby rearing in lockdown, when Darren embraced the new normal a little too much, GoldProp all but dissolved, and your credit cards started bouncing.

Movie: A Journal for Jordan

Directed by Oscar winner Denzel Washington and starring Emmy nominee Michael B Jordan (Black Panther’s Killmonger and Creed’s Adonis Johnson), A Journal For Jordan is based on the real writings of first sergeant Charles Monroe King, who kept a journal of love and advice for his infant son before he was killed in action in Baghdad.

Sharing this journal with her son, his fiancée, Dana Canedy (Sundance winner Chanté Adams from The Photograph), reflects on her unlikely yet powerful romantic relationship with King.

For the kids: Eighth Grade

Recommended for teens 14+, Eighth Grade follows an introverted teenage girl trying to survive the last week of her disastrous eighth grade year before leaving to start high school. Directed by Bo Burnham, it’s won 60 international awards, with Common Sense Media calling it “extremely realistic”, “relatable”, and a “tenderly acted coming-of-age dramedy”.

Netflix:

Series: Dead to Me

A hotheaded widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband befriends an eccentric optimist who isn’t quite what she seems.

Movie: Nafsi

After she and her husband struggle to conceive, a woman asks her best friend to be her surrogate — which ultimately puts their friendship in jeopardy.

For the kids: Slumberland

Joined by a larger-than-life outlaw, a daring young orphan journeys through a land of dreams to find a precious pearl that will grant her greatest wish.
