Who hasn’t fantasised about that ultimate cool car for Christmas? Perhaps for those who made Santa’s “nice list”, that cool car dream might just be realised.
There’s no shortage of cool cars for Santa to choose from. The coolest (and most expensive) of these have made their way onto the AutoTrader platform. Some are sleek and outrageously fast hypercars with a racing reputation, others the embodiment of posh. The sticker prices? A cool R14m to R35m.
The pinnacle of cool is perhaps the hypercar. It’s the crème de la crème of supercars. The McLaren Senna Coupe, a modified McLaren 720S, is a pukka hypercar. Built for speed and named after the late racing ace Ayrton Senna, this beautifully crafted track-focused machine with its snarling exhaust note is powered by a twin-turbo V8 offering a top speed of 335km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.8s. Costing just shy of R35m, this level of cool requires deep pockets.
Cool and even faster can be got at almost half that price. And Santa might be somewhat more predisposed to gifts associated with the colour red, Ferrari’s historical racing colour. Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, brags a V8 engine and electric motors, enabling this prancing horse to gallop to a top speed of 340km/h and reach 100km/h from a standing start in just 2.5s. Somewhat quicker than Rudolph and his seven reindeer mates can haul Santa’s sleigh, one imagines.
Something a touch more exotic-looking, perhaps? The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe fits that bill. Sporting a raucous sounding V12, this striking hypercar boasts a maximum speed of over 350km/h, is similarly priced to the Stradale and offers the same sprint time as the Senna. Superfast steeds are a thirsty breed, though, and this one gulps a hefty 18L/100km.
Nothing epitomises posh quite like a Rolls-Royce. Festive can be uber stylish in a bespoke, sublimely luxurious and powerful SUV like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge. With a top speed of 250km/h, it’s no slouch. It’s another kind of cool with the posh factor ramped up.
