The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo will press criminal charges against former Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipal Manager Ombali Sebola and two service providers, CigiCell and Legodi Attorneys following the recommendations contained in a forensic report tabled in council on Tuesday.
During a media briefing in the city that was convened by DA Provincial Leader Jacques Smalle and Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene Van Staden at the time of going to press, it was confirmed that the municipality will also institute disciplinary action against its acting Chief Finance Officer, Makgitla Lekalakala and Revenue Manager, Jackson Sithole after the forensic report revealed alleged gross financial irregularities during the 2017/18 financial year of the municipality. According to Van Staden, the irregularities included 539 transactions where payments were made and were only reflected in the financial records as ‘EFT payments’ with no reference to whom the payments were made, involving an estimated R80 million.
