In an effort to bring residents together and celebrate the Festive Season with sport and recreational activities, Polokwane Municipality hosted its first family recreation day at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday.
More than a thousand guests were welcomed with colourful T-shirts and caps and took part in mass aerobics and a 5 km fun walk.
Team activities included tug of war, a treasure hunt, egg and sack races and morabaraba. A jumping castle and water slides provided entertainment for the young ones and face painting was on the house.
Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng welcomed the guests and said that one of the objects of the day was to sensitise residents about health and took part in the fun walk to show her commitment.
Matshidiso Mothapo, acting Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality says that the huge turnout demonstrated that the public is hungry for this type of event. “This year’s was the first and more such events will be hosted in times to come,” Mothapo said.
Guests Jack Makama, Tebogo Madabo and Katlego Lephalala said that they are soccer fans but nevertheless enjoyed the activities.
