Polokwane Municipality’s Literary Fair offers wide variety

Polokwane Municipality’s sixth Literary Fair kicked off on 3 September with activities dedicated to National Book Week and ended on Friday with poetry performances at the city library auditorium under the title ‘Polokwane Burning’.
The programme included motivational talks, storytelling, a Spelling Bee competition, orientation of learners through the library by library personnel, an outreach to Polokwane Correctional Centre where authors, performers and poets interacted with inmates, a writing master class, the very popular Youth Parliament and book launches.
Festival Director, Malose Lekganyane said the activities did not target large groups but was rather a tailor-made marketing package developed with the single aim of promoting brand awareness among a niche market instead of creating platforms for attracting mass audiences.
Lekganyane added that the key objectives of the fair was to develop local capacity by providing skills to literary art practitioners, to provide a platform to advance social cohesion among wide and diverse racial, cultural, economic and age groups, to create a sustainable literary industry that contributes towards the local economy, to promote a culture of agenda-setting conversations and to build dependable audiences, markets and partnerships of strategic importance.
