Secunda parkrun pulls great interest on Easter weekend

Xolani Ngcamphala decided on the Secunda parkrun as his 23rd venue to visit.

Almost 250 participants ran, jogged or walked the 398th Secunda parkrun on the Saturday of Easter.

A total of 46 people improved their personal best times.

Quintin van Meyeren from the Eskom Athletic Club Mpumalanga is one of these participants. He completed the 5km route in a time of 17:58.

Johan Brits, provincial rugby referee, used the parkrun as a warm up for the coming rugby season, crossing the finish line in a time 20:52.

He was followed by junior runner Wege Viljoen (21:21), Colin Louw (22:11), Barry Visagie (22:13), Coenraad Meyer (22:17), Dumisani Chibanda (22:33), Musa Mukansi (22:36), Wynand Coetzee (22:37), Coenraad Meyer junior (23:05) and Sakhile Msibi (23:35).

Tamlyn Stevens was the first woman home in a time of 24:20. This event also had a special visitor.

Xolani Ngcamphala, originally from the Mbabane parkrun, told Ridge Times he is on a mission to visit as many other parkruns as possible.

Secunda parkrun is his 23rd venue.

According to Ngcamphala, the toughest route was that of the Valley of a 1000 hills and the most scenic is definitely the botanical gardens in Pretoria.

“I came to visit a cousin for Easter and I am excited to take on Secunda’s route,” he said before the run on Saturday.

Ngcamphala finished the route in a time of 41:02.
