Secunda Spurs hosts successful second annual Farm Schools Tournament

Emdibini Primary School emerged as the 2026 football champions after a thrilling final against Roodebank Primary School.

Secunda Spurs Academy FC NPO hosted its second annual KC Ndhlovu Farm Schools Tournament at Roodebank Primary School on June 6, bringing together young athletes from farm schools and surrounding communities in a celebration of sport and youth development.

The tournament, which was first held in Charl Cilliers in 2025, has continued to grow as an important platform for nurturing sporting talent and promoting community involvement among learners from farm schools.

Emdibini Primary School emerged as the 2026 football champions after a thrilling final against Roodebank Primary School.

The match ended 3-3 in regulation time before Emdibini secured a 3-2 victory in a penalty shootout.

Roodebank Primary School was crowned the netball champion. The football finalists earned their places after impressive semi-final performances.

Roodebank defeated Muzimuhle Primary School 2-0, while Emdibini edged Van Staden Primary School 1-0.

The tournament featured four participating farm schools.

The initiative was established by Secunda Spurs head coach Phil Ndhlovu as a way of giving back to the community while promoting youth development through sport.

Ndhlovu expressed gratitude to the sponsors, community partners, Secunda Spurs parents and players whose support contributed to the success of the event.

Through the club’s efforts, food and refreshments were provided to approximately 100 children who attended the tournament.

In addition to trophies and medals, the winning schools received brand-new soccer and netball kits sponsored by Ndhlovu and Secunda Spurs FC.

“The tournament also provided valuable learning opportunities for Secunda Spurs players. Club members assisted with tournament operations by serving as referees and linesmen, helping to weld goal posts, mark fields, and coordinate the distribution of food and refreshments to spectators and players.

“Through these responsibilities, participants gained practical experience in leadership, teamwork, entrepreneurship and event management,” said Ndhlovu.

He added that the club remains committed to creating opportunities that develop both sporting talent and life skills within farm communities.

The tournament once again highlighted the positive role that sport can play in empowering young people, strengthening community ties and creating opportunities for future generations.
