eMBALENHLE – Sasol officially handed over a laboratory to Lifalethu Primary School on 24 February.
The existing laboratory and store room were converted into a fully equipped science laboratory, complete with work benches, cupboards, science kits, chemicals and a first-aid box.
The laboratory will set a fundamental foundation to complement the science theory learned with practical experience with the aim to create an interest and love for science and mathematics.
Mr Isaac Modise, Manager of Community Affairs at Sasol Secunda said: “This initiative is another example of Sasol’s commitment to uplift the quality of learning and teaching in schools, especially in the area of mathematics, science and technology.
“Investing in the communities in which we operate is a strategic priority for Sasol.
“The company’s community affairs programme seeks to promote people-centred, needs-driven sustainable development of the people in the community.”
Sasol invested R593.2 million in education, job creation, health and welfare, the environment and arts and culture last year.
In addition, Sasol Mining invested R17.8 million as part of its social and labour plans.
At the end of 2013 Sasol announced its R800 million Ikusasa public private partnership with the Mpumalanga and Free State provincial governments.
An additional R24 million has been invested in disaster management and crime prevention programmes.
These programmes contribute to Government’s interventions against child and gender violence.
