LEANDRA – Mr Chris van Deventer (62) died in the Steve Biko Hospital on Sunday after he was shot during a farm attack near Leslie on 5 March.
He and his wife, Ms Elize van Deventer (60,) were driving to the police station to report a housebreaking during which a firearm, among others, was stolen.
They men two men at the farm gate and when Mr Van Deventer told them he was on his way to the police, when one of the men shot three bullets through the car window.
Two hit him in the stomach and the men ran off.
Ms Van Deventer rushed with him to the Evander Hospital from where he was later transfered to the Witbank Hospital.
They could not help Van Deventer and he was admitted to the Steve Biko Hospital.
The Leandra Police arrested a suspect about 400m from the scene of the shooting.
He accompanied the police to the Lebohang township where they arrested the other suspect.
Two cell phones, a cell phone charger and a firearm (the alleged stolen property of Mr Van Deventer) were recovered.
The two suspects, both 21 years old, were arrested and appeared in the Leandra Magistrate’s Court on 9 March and the case was postponed.
The funeral arrangements were not known at time of going to press.
