“I’ve got Zello, I’ve joined Standerton Misdaad/Crime now what?”
Well, let’s help you understand the basics of how it works and what you should do next.
In the past week almost 60 people joined the channel.
Please note that if you have downloaded the application you need to keep it open or else it serves no purpose.
The aim is not only to sound a distress call, but also to assist someone else in case of an emergency.
This is not expected of you, but if we stand together, it serves to the benefit of all.
When sounding a distress call, ensure you communicate it clearly to the channel.
Keep it short, but as detailed as possible.
There are currently two moderators on Zello, Messrs Wayne van der Walt, editor of the Standerton Advertiser and Iain Pattullo, journalist, that are on standby to assist.
More moderators will be elected to ensure that you always get a response.
Zello will also be discussed on the last Thursday of the month at the monthly neigbourhood watch meeting.
Please make sure that when you press down on the talk button, you wait a few seconds before speaking.
The same goes for when ending the conversation, make sure you keep the talk button down for a few seconds after you spoke and then release.
If you are new to Zello, you can simply add our channel and ask the moderators to test your signal. The sole purpose of the channel is to reduce crime, so let’s keep the channel open for emergencies. People should also get acquainted with the NATO phonetic alphabet to guarantee accuracy on the channel.
Here is a list of commands along with the NATO phonetic alphabet:
