Women joggers must beware

Police are concerned about the high increase in rapes in the area.

eMZINONI – Criminals now target jogging women.

The police have warned women who usually jog in the morning and evening to be on their guard.

They said a number of rape cases were opened recently by jogging women who became the victims of rape.

Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman, advised women to form jogging groups or to get a jogging buddy.

She said criminals will not be able to take advantage of the women if they jog in groups.

“We are looking for a man who tried and failed to rape a women because of a weak erection.

“The victim told us the perpetrator tried to penetrate her, but he could not.

“He then beat her, threw a stone into her face and left her unconscious.

“She was admitted to the Bethal Hospital.”

In another incident, a woman was kidnapped by three men who took her to a veld nearby and raped her throughout the night.

“They tied her with ropes, closed her mouth with something and left her in a hole in that veld.

“We condemn such barbaric actions and call on the community to help us with any information they have.”

No arrests have been made yet and the police are investigating.
