Residents say SARS should use municipal halls
Residents say they stand in long queues in the cold to submit their SARS documents.
The South African Revenue Service’s (SARS) mobile unit comes to the parking lot near Shoprite and KFC in the Secunda CBD every Wednesday.
It helps Secunda, Kinross and Leandra communities.
One of the people who was in the queue, said she arrived at 9am and had to stand in the queue for nearly six hours before she was helped.
“I asked for a day off from work and if I do not submit my forms today, I will have to ask for the day off next Wednesday and which employer will allow you to keep on asking for a day off to attend to the same thing again and again?” she asked.
Residents said it is surprising that there are no SARS offices in our municipal area with big companies such as Sasol.
They said that if they are unable to get time off on a Wednesday, they have to go to Standerton.
“Why does SARS not use the municipality’s halls to assist us and provide chairs, because some of us are not in good health and cannot stand for hours,” said a resident from Kinross.
SARS’s spokesman, Ms Babs Naidoo, said SARS is committed to ensuring that they make it as easy as possible for the taxpayer to interact with SARS.
“In this regard we continue to expand our footprint to reach as many taxpayers as possible.
“Our long term goal is to bring SARS services, processes and products to where taxpayers conduct their business.
“Our strategy is to achieve this through a combination of opening more offices, deploying more mobile units and promoting online electronic channels,” said Mr Naidoo.
