Sasol steps up for education
Company recently launched a care programme for orphaned and vulnerable children in Lebohang to give them an opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential.
LEBOHANG – Sasol challenged its employees to step up for education by helping the company collect 10 000 books in honour of Nelson Mandela, a global icon and advocate for positive change, last month.
“Mandela was a great champion and proponent of the importance of education.
“In support of his vision to change the world through enabling access to education, Sasol employees have collected 3 000 books which have been donated to the Lebohang Community Library.
Sasol Secunda Public Affairs’ vice president, Ms Maureen Mboshane, said literacy is an essential life skill and studies indicate that currently nearly 17 per cent of the world’s adult population is still illiterate, while the scale of illiteracy among the youth is climbing.
“The Nelson Mandela Foundation began the Buy-A-Book Campaign to encourage organisations and individuals to buy and donate books to their local libraries, especially those in formerly disadvantaged areas, in line with Mandela’s vision to nurture and develop children.
“Sasol has tapped into this initiative with its Step up for Education Campaign,” said Ms Mboshane who also said that Sasol recently launched a care programme for orphaned and vulnerable children in Lebohang to give them an opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential.
Ms Mboshane said Sasol believes in building future leaders through various community development programmes and they hope that by donating books, they are opening up a new world through reading.
