Local pupils commend Sasol Techno X

Thousands of pupils from various provinces in the country benefited from Sasol Techno X 2015.

SECUNDA – Local pupils have applauded Sasol for the 2015 Techno X held a week ago.

They said they learnt more about career opportunities in the fields of maths, science, engineering and technology during the expo.

Pupils were under the assistance and direction of buddies and guides.

They had an opportunity to interact with the exhibitors, receive career guidance and bursary opportunities, as well as advice from academic institutions on which subjects to choose in order to pursue careers of their choice.

Mongezi Mahlangu, a pupil, said he was impressed with the police’s exhibition and that he was not aware that the police services include so much science and technology.

If it was not for Sasol Techno X, I was not going to be exposed to such knowledge.

“I learnt a lot and in going persue a career in policing.”

Techno X 2015 attracted about 4000 pupils daily.

The five days national event aimed at giving Grade 5 to 12 pupils an opportunity to see and experience science and technology through interactive exhibitions.

Techno X has been sponsored by Sasol for the past 14 years and the event has grown in popularity to become the largest career guidance exhibition of its kind in the inland provinces.

It was hosted in Mpumalanga for the first time and was held with National Science Week.

Ms Wrenelle Stander, senior vice president: Public Affairs and Real Estate Services at Sasol, said Sasol Techno X is a very significant event on the education calendar.

She said it is one of the many ways that Sasol is demonstrating its commitment to developing South Africa’s future leaders in science, mathematics, technology, engineering and related fields.

Ms Reginah Mhaule, MEC for Education in Mpumalanga, said the theme Today’s minds, tomorrow’s future talks about the importance of science and technology in shaping and developing the future generations.

“Technological advances that our citizens, young and old are pursuing today, will have a massive impact on what lies ahead for all humanity and the environment.

“Our own existence as a human specie and other species that co-exist with us on this earth very much depend on what we are able to discover and implement through science and technology.

“We hope our pupils will make use of this opportunity.”

The Govan Mbeki Municipality’s Department of Community Services’ and various sections were among the more than 60 career guidance exhibitors.
