Resident blames municipality
Switchboard operators kept on telling her that plumbers are on their way.
EVANDER – A resident of Raymond Mohlaba contacted the Govan Mbeki Municipality’ switchboard about a broken sewage pipe.
“Sewage from the hospital are flowing into my yard.
She reported it for three days without any luck.
Switchboard operators kept saying the plumbers were on their way.
“It takes three days for the plumbers to drive from Secunda to Evander and in the meantime, all the sewage from the hospital are flowing into my yard and the smell is terrible,” said a resident.
She managed to get the contact number of a technical team supervisor.
A team of plumbers were immediately dispatched to solve the problem.
She said on Friday morning when she woke up, she realised that the pipe had broken again and the sewage was flowing into her yard.
After making another phone call to the supervisor, the plumbers went to her house again to fix the problem.
An elderly woman said she was happy that they fixed the problem, but she is worried how many people phone the switchboard every day and are not attended to.
