Fire station receives new vehicles
The correct address should be given when reporting a fire.
LEANDRA – Joy Global Africa in partnership with Sasol donated two vehicles to the Leandra Fire Station recently.
The Govan Mbeki Municipal MMC for Technical and Engineering Services, Mr Freddy Nkambule, said they donated the most needed equipment that will save the property and the lives of people.
The chief fire officer, Ms Shelly Tshabalala, led a simulation exercise to show how fire fighters respond to a call from the public.
One person was asked to phone the fire department and report a fire at the Leandra Police Station.
The whole process, from the phone call to the fire fighters arriving on the scene, took four minutes.
Ms Tshabalala overemphasized the importance of giving the correct details and the correct address when reporting a fire.
The acting executive mayor, Ms Thandi Ngxonono, said the partnership will bear positive results in going forward.
“When we were doing the inspection, I realised there are added features on the vehicles,” she said.
“The response time from Leandra Fire Station is good and we believe their job will be much easier with the donation,” said Ward Councillor Mr July Mnguni, during the closing remarks of the event.
