Letha ulwazi outreach empowers the youth
Local youth thanked Masidle Gaba Trading Enterprise for organising the Letha ulwazi outreach.
eMBALENHLE – Hundreds of unskilled and unemployed youths attended the Letha Ulwazi Outreach Programme at the God Never Fails Church on Friday, 23 October.
The aim of the programme was to address the shortage of skills and the escalating rate of unemployment in the area.
It was organised by the Masidle Gaba Trading Enterprise in conjunction with the Department of Labour, the National Youth Development Agency, the Independent Electoral Commission, the Department of Health and Jomela.
Mr Doctor Nkosi, Masidle Gaba Trading Enterprise, said many people were not informed about the role of the Department of Labour regarding recruiting.
“Companies consult with the Department of Labour to employ people with relevant skills who are listed on the database.
“The number of people who are registered on the database reveals that people do not have information about this service.”
He said people were also not familiar with the role that the National Youth Development Agency and Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Programme play.
Mr Sthembile Dlamini, an attendee, said the programme was an eye-opener.
“We often tend to blame companies and the government for our lack of knowledge, but this programme helped me a lot.”
Jomele Training and Placement Company was put in the spotlight when the youth questioned their recruiting strategies, especially regarding the Mshini wami Skills Academy (Skyhill).
They are concerned that the people who are receiving training, are not local because they identified people from Nkandla.
Mr Bethuel Mabeletsa, manager of Jomela, explained the process of recruitment and said the company gets the mandate from stakeholders such as Government.
“We then go to the Department of Labour and Nyda to employ candidates.
“Locals are always a priority.
“70 per cent of the current class is from the Gert Sibande Municipal District.”
