Teachers call it a day

"We saw the beauty of your work as foundation phase teachers in our children

Staff and members of the School Governing Body (SGB) of Phumula Primary School recently bid farewell to three of their teachers at the Ermelo Inn.

Ms T.C. Nkambule, Ms E.T. Zulu and Ms D.A. Maseko with a combined 114 years’ experience are now on pension.
Their colleagues said it was “sheer pleasure” working with them.

Ms Zulu thanked the staff for all the good and challenging times they spent together and encouraged them to remember that teaching is the mother of all professions.

“Thank you to the parents who trusted us with their children and everybody’s support during my time at the school,” she said.

Ms Nkambule relived how well she was received by her colleagues at the school and applauded the working ethics of her colleagues and the school principal. Mr M. Mlotshwa.

“I wish to remind young teachers that teaching is a calling. The foundation phase is an important phase of any child’s development, because if we get it wrong at that level, the child’s future is doomed,” said Ms Nkambule.

She also encouraged the teachers not to be afraid to make tough decisions about holding a child back if there are good grounds to do so, because it doesn’t help to push learners when you see they are not coping.

Their colleagues had praise for the teachers who are leaving and thanked them for their commitment and dedication. Ms Zulu was also applauded for always identifying needy children for whom she always brought bread and food. Ms D.A. Maseko, who was absent on the day, spoke to the newspaper and said she still loves her colleagues and appreciates everything they did for her.

“I’m happy to see some of my products doing very well in their different professions and wish to thank the parents for all the support they showed over the years.”

Member of the SGB, Mr J.Nkosi, said it was tough to let go of the teachers.

“We saw the beauty of your work as foundation phase teachers in our children, as we saw improvements daily, and for that we thank you,” said Mr Nksosi. Mr Mlotshwa applauded the teachers’ commitment and wished them well.
