Families receive social relief

"I'm really happy to receive this parcel and I want to thank the departments and the municipality for this,"

More than 32 families of Msukaligwa Local Municipality received food parcels from the Department of Social Development (DSD) and SASSA last Thursday at the Civic Centre.

The beneficiaries were identified by councillors and the Community Work Programme (CWP) personnel. Their names were referred to DSD for verification after which the social workers wrote motivational letters to SASSA for procurement and supply of the food parcels.

Relief was provided to senior citizens and child-headed families. Executive Mayor of Msukaligwa Local Municipality Mr Sipho Bongwe applauded the government departments for the assistance, councillors and the CWPs for all the hard work.

“This is an important gesture to the families, as they will be able to enjoy the festive season knowing they have food on the table. We must also remember that this is the government that cares and listens to its people, and today’s event is an example of it,” said Mr Bongwe.

One of the beneficiaries, Nurse Mkhatshwa, could not contain her excitement as she received her parcel.

“I’m really happy to receive this parcel and I want to thank the departments and the municipality for this,”said Ms Mkhatshwa.

The families will receive two more batches of food parcels to see them through to the new year.
