New municipal manager has not pitched up for work
Mr Shongwe is apparently on study leave.
HIGHVELD – Ms Lindi Masina, executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, disputed allegations that the new municipal manager, Mr Zwelihle Shongwe, previously the municipal manager of the Msukaligwa Local Municipality (Ermelo), has not pitched up for work since his appointment in March.
The public suspected he has been put on special leave after the authorities realised that the decision to swap him with Mr Mmela Mahlangu, who took his place in Ermelo, was a wrong move.
Ms Masina said he is on study leave and will resume his duties on 13 May.
In the meantime, Mr Mahlangu is apparently also on leave.
Mr George Mthethwa, spokesman for Cogta, said the decision that was taken to swap the two municipal managers was final and that nothing has changed and said it is just a coincidence that the two municipal managers are on leave at the same time.
