Sunboy helps people with proper nutrition

“I train different types of people, from those who want to lose weight, who want to maintain their bodies to those who want to gain weight.”

eMBALENHLE – Sunboy Mthimunye is a well-known personal trainer, sports conditioning and nutritional coach in the Govan Mbeki municipal area.

Most people has come to know him when he organised cardio training awareness at the various Sasol Clubs, while others know him because of his successful soccer background.

“In my programmes, I do not teach and let people follow what I do.

“I hold their hands throughout the journey and feed them information that helps them to understand what they do and why they are doing it,” said Mthimunye.

The idea of training others began when he was helping his wife to lose weight.

“We used to go to the sports ground at eMbalenhle Sasol Club to do training exercises and while we were there, I used to see women jogging and doing exercises, but was concerned with the way they exercised and some of them doing the same thing over and over.

“Some had muscle pools, while others arrived and began running without warming up,” added Mthimunye.

One day he asked their permission to give them a training session for 10 minutes.

Mr Mthimunye said after the 10 minutes, they were tired and sweating and excited at the same time.

The women invited each other and requested him to continue with the training sessions.

After seeing the good results his wife had achieved and others confessing they have begun to lose weight and their bodies became active at the same time, he began to do formal training and introduced the nutrition side of living healthy.

Mr Mthimunye begins with an evaluation assessment and creates a profile for new members.

“I train different types of people, from those who want to lose weight, who want to maintain their bodies to those who want to gain weight.”

He added that being underweight is also a problem, because when an underweight person gets hurt, it takes longer to heal because the body does not have body fat to protect the skin.

He advised that being overweight leads to early aging and also creates diseases.

Mr Mthimunye said fat usually stays in the belly.

He also mentioned that it is vital that people should understand why they do certain exercises and the effects thereof.

“When you gym and stimulate certain muscles, fat moves and looks for another place that is not exercised and stays there,” Mr Mthimunye explained.

His training sessions include children aged six years old to the elderly.

Mr Mthimunye also helps people who has undergone surgery and are in recovery programmes.

Teaching discipline is also part of his training programme.

“Some jobs do not only consider qualifications, but also do fitness tests.
