Gert Sibande TVET College Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE) in Standerton held a certificate handover ceremony at the campus on 24 May.
Altogether 191 students who successfully completed Enterprise Development Training from 29 to 31 March at the Standerton campus were rewarded.
The purpose was to empower them with skills to enable them to venture into their own businesses.
The campus management was part of the event and excited about their success.
According to Mr Chamuwari Ketano, CfE facilitator, their mandate is to establish student-owned companies and small enterprises.
The training has also been conducted at other campuses such as Balfour, Ermelo and Sibaneseftu.
The aim aim is to equip students to become self-sustainable in the business field and the training is for all students and done during recess periods for NCV students as well.
Mr Ketano conducted the training in town and according to him, the task is one of the most difficult, but a noble cause.
“Our responsibility is to break the chains of entrepreneurial fear in young people,” Mr Ketano said.
“The journey towards entrepreneurship is a journey of self-discovery and to be successful, you need to know and understand yourself.”
Ms Joan Dibakoana, HOD of Business Studies, encouraged the students to take the opportunity and use it to empower themselves and their communities.
“Everything happens for a reason and gone are the days where you need to go out and seek employment,” she said.
Ms Dibakoana encouraged them to use their gained knowledge.
“We cannot all be employed, all you need to do is to go out and begin your own businesses and begin small.”
She also wished them the best of luck in their future endeavours.
Mr Michael Moshabela, Standerton Campus Student Liaison Officer (SLO): Academic Support and Developmental Programmes, said they need to encourage young people to become entrepreneurs.
“CfE is here to empower young people with skills that will enable them to own the means of production,” Mr Moshabela said.
“The necessary skills will enable them to be active participants within the country’s economy.”
Ms Shereen Dindar, Centre Director, said they have an obligation to fulfill certain objectives of the SEDA technology programme.
“As a footprint in Mpumalanga, we strive to train, support, establish and create as many jobs as possible to develop entrepreneurs within the student community.”
