The Bethal Drug Action committee held a crime school competition at the Hindu Community Hall in Milan Park.
The committee comprises stakeholders from various government and non-government organisations.
The aim was to explore the learners’ knowledge about substance abuse and to come up with ways to stop it.
Learners had to prepare presentations that were assessed based on the following criteria:
– Learners had to convey what drugs are and what drug abuse is.
– They had to present the classification of drugs: socially acceptable drugs, inhalants, over-the-counter drugs, prescribed drugs, as well as illegal drugs.
– Learners had to describe the signs and symptoms of substance abuse, the effect of substance abuse and include programmes that are rendered for substance abuse by all departments according to the Prevention and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act 70 of 2008.
More than 150 learners and teachers from various schools took part.
