Jandrell Secondary School held its rendition of Youth Day at their premises on 15 June.
Youth Day has a deep-rooted meaning in South Africa for reasons such as the 16 June 1976 uprising in Soweto where learners, with political consciousness, questioned the education policies of the regime.
The Girls and Boys Educational Movement (GBEM), an initiative aimed at educating the youth about various issues, celebrated with poetry, drama, music and dance.
”The best and only way to honour our former leaders is to become strong and educated to take South Africa forward,” Siboniso Khoza, SRC president, said.
Learners of Thobelani Secondary School, Thandeka Primary School and Azalea Combined School were also in attendance.
”Our future is bright through education,” Siboniso Khoza also said.
