Sasol invests R30-m in upkeep of GMM area

Over the past two months, Sasol, through its Ikusasa Programme, invested R30-m towards the upkeep and improvement of the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) towns.

This initiative was done as part of Sasol Ikusasa’s vision to ensure that GMM is a desirable location for talented individuals to live and work in.

Through the intervention project, Sasol Ikusasa assisted GMM with the upkeep in the towns of Bethal, Leandra, Trichardt, Evander, eMbalenhle, Kinross and Secunda.

The maintenance actions during the project focused on the repair of potholes and cracks, re-surfacing of roads, revitalisation of road markings and signs.

The most visible needs, such as main streets and green belts areas in all of the above mentioned towns except in eMbalenhle, were taken into consideration.

This included the replacement of faulty lights and fittings, repairing cable faults and electricity supply to lights and the installing of LED lighting for parks and recreation areas.

Traffic lights were also repaired and that included Kleynhans Street in Bethal and the main entrance to the town, the main street in the Secunda CBD and the Graceland intersection, as well as the intersection at eMbalehle Welamlambo in Extension 18 and towards the Sasol Club.

Attention was also given to main roads, green belts as well as recreation parks in Secunda, Bethal, Evander and Trichardt.

These actions included grass cutting, pruning of trees as well as removal of trees where needed, and waste and litter removal.

According to a Sasol spokesman, they will continue to build partnerships across a broad range of stakeholders to jointly address the needs of communities.

“Through integrated efforts we believe we can keep our communities clean and safe.”

Sasol is currently resurfacing the road at Laerskool H.M. Swart in Bethal.
