The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport allowed the local scholar transport to continue transporting learners to school.
This decision was taken after several weeks of squabbling between parents, local scholar transport and the Mpumalanga Scholar Transport.
The Ridge Times asked the department to comment and Mr Mpho Gabashane, spokesman for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, said: “The department is aware of the challenges in the area.
“The dispute is between the main contractor and the sub-contractors with respect to introduction of new buses to particular routes.
“After a successful consultation meeting on 8 September, all sub-contractors will continue to service the routes as usual until an amicable resolution is found.”
The affected learners include those travelling from Kinross to eMdibini Combined School, Trichardsfontein and those who attend school in Leandra.
Kinross has only one no fee primary school and no high school.
Local operators refused to let buses from another area operate in their area.
This led to Mpumalanga Scholar Transport learners being transported back to Ermelo several times.
A Kinross resident was worried over poor school attendance because of the problems.
“Most of the learners are older than the others in their grades, and if they fail their grades, they might be refused admission next year,” said the woman.
Parents pleaded with local operators to make sure they have enough buses for the learners and that they are also roadworthy.
