Maths, science and technology are the subjects of the future and when children feel left behind in one of them, they often struggle with the rest of their schoolwork as well.
One of the most import factors for a successful school career, is having self confidence in your own abilities.
Often, and due to many different circumstances however, pupils lose this self confidence early on, causing them to simply coast through school, without ever fully reaching their potential.
Ms Caroline Heimann and her group of dedicated mathematics tutors are working to change this, and in conjunction with a local high school in Secunda, they have begun working with Grade 8 pupils and are building a strong mathematical foundation.
She explained that the idea for the maths tutoring came from wanting to give back to the community and helping children who come from a vulnerable academic background.
They decided to focus on Grade 8 learners for now and have also incorporated a general study skills course into their tutoring.
