Khunjuliwe Secondary School SGB want scholar transport reinstated
Parents and the Student Governing Body (SGB) of the Khunjuliwe Secondary School in Standerton, protested at the Department of Education (DoE) District offices in Ermelo over the suspension of six scholar transport buses on Wednesday.

Parents and the Student Governing Body (SGB) of the Khunjuliwe Secondary School in Standerton, protested at the Department of Education (DoE) District offices in Ermelo over the suspension of six scholar transport buses on Wednesday, 11 April.
Members came in numbers in buses to protest at the offices, however, the district management did not attend to them.
The school has shut down due to the issue of learners having to walk long distances to the school, located in the industrial area of Standerton.
The issue has bubbling under the surface since 2016 and affected learners and the community are of the opinion that walking such distances poses a danger to learners.
They are in a conundrum as the shortcut to the school also intersects a railway line, which in itself is a danger.
The DoE terminated the six buses, leaving eight to transport the 900 learners.
A move that left learners, parents and teachers disgruntled.
“How can they expect a learner to walk this long distance and still be able to perform at school is beyond me,” said SGB chairman, Mr Jabu Maluleke.
A letter, noting all the concerns from the learners, was going to be handed over to the management of the DoE.
It demanded that the matter be addressed as soon as possible as failure to do so will result in a march, consisting of learners and concerned parents, to the circuit offices.
Learners will also not attend classes till the matter is addressed.
The DoE has yet to acknowledge or respond to the group at the time of going to print.
