Sr Corne Bellingan wins award for exceptional nursing skills at Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt
Colleagues view Sr Bellingan as a role model.
Sr Corne Bellingan from Mediclinic Highveld and Mediclinic Secunda received the annual Nursing Excellence Award.
Mediclinic celebrated international Nurses Day on Thursday, 12 May and Ms Sphiwe Mahlalela, patient experience manager, said they took time out to recognise each nurse who has chosen a career of caring.
“Sr Bellingan received the award for the dedication she invests into caring for her patients and supporting her colleagues,” said Ms Mahlalela. She pays attention to detail when dealing with patients and family and she always walks the extra mile. She is a role model and a good example to other nurses in her ward.
“Her colleagues see her as their mentor and she is always there to support her team.
“She always puts her patients first and when duty calls, she does not mind missing tea breaks or make her lunch times shorter.”
According to Ms Mahlalela, the specific date for the awards ceremony is chosen as an international tribute to the profession that coincides with Florence Nightingale’s birthday and to allow nurses to celebrate the valuable work that nurses do.
“Mediclinic believes that nurses are a vital component of a healthy community and nurses are born to care. Our nurses make it their life’s mission to help others recover and maintain healhy lives or to support them and their families where recovery is not possible. We believe in training and nurturing them to fulfil this role.”
Ms Estelle Coustas, nursing executive at Mediclinic Southern Africa, said: “Mediclinic’s Nursing Excellence Awards is an opportunity to recognise those nurses who give of themselves daily in caring for others; nurses who believe that delivering on patients’ expectations is an essential part of who they are.
“We are constantly investigating how we can better meet our patients’ expectations, and this year we have identified the opportunity of strengthening communication between our staff in the nursing units and our patients, allowing us to better serve our community.”
