Help Teksa Blood Services get enough blood for the coming Easter holiday

Tests to determine blood groups will also be available on 21 March at the Teksa Blood Services.

SECUNDA – Oranjegloed Primary School adopted the Teksa Blood Services for a day on Thursday, 7 March.

This branch of the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) spent the afternoon at the school during which they prompted parents and staff members to donate blood.

They collected 30 units on Thursday.

Ms Dot Prinsloo, donor relations practitioner, said every drop makes a difference. She thanked Oranjegloed for their support and hospitality.

Ms Prinsloo invited residents to join their massive blood drive on 21 March.

Tests to determine blood groups will also be available on the day at the Teksa Blood Services.

“It is Human Rights Day and we ask the public to come and make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most.

“We have a high target to reach that day in order for us to be prepared for the coming Easter holiday,” said Ms Prinsloo.

Although so many people need blood, only about one per cent of the population are donors.

To become a blood donor, you have to be between the ages of 16 and 65 years of age, weigh a minimum of 50kg, be in good health, lead a low risk lifestyle, and have a healthy blood pressure and heart beat.

The blood services will be open until 4pm on 21 March.

Ms Cheryl Laubscher and Miss Hilmary Naidoo supported the blood drive at Oranjegloed Primary School on Thursday, 7 March. They are being helped by Ms Silindile Magagula (enrolled nurse for SANBS).
