UPDATE: Water must be used sparingly in Ext 3 & 8 at Bethal

DA ward councilor, Marietjie Fourie, released a statement saying that water must be used sparingly in Extension three and eight as levels are low. Reserve water for basic needs.

BETHAL – Water supply to Bethalrand will continue to be a problem as long as stage 4 loadshedding remains.

Ms Marietjie Fourie, DA Ward councillor for Bethal said today, 20 March, the Trichardt pumpstation can not pump water towards Bethalrand when there is no electricity.

This happens three times every day during stage 4 loadshedding causing insufficient water levels in the reservoir.

“Unfortunately, loadshedding is not something that I as a councillor, or any Govan Mbeki municipal official can control as it is implemented on a national level.

“The only remedy is to use water sparingly and keep supply available when the reservoir runs dry,” said Ms Fourie.

Rand Water issued a press release earlier today stating that the bulk water network remains stable and that electricity infrastructure failures have posed no risk to their network.

Rand Water said that it was closely monitoring possible impacts that may occur as a consequence of electricity failure will not impact on its network.

“We have noted that some municipalities have already advised consumers to reduce their consumption of water in this respect, and the advice is duly reiterated,” said Mr Justice Mohale, Media Relations Manager.
