Secunda has a new doctor in town

Dr Moodley’s girlfriend of six years had moved to Secunda for work, so it was an easy decision for him to pack his bags.

SECUNDA – Old school values, like home visits in the medical field, are not common occurance anymore.

Dr Thesegen Moodley (40) is balancing the old with the new at his new practice based in Secunda.

The Durban-born doctor moved to Secunda after he was placed at Evander Hospital in 2015.

Dr Moodley’s girlfriend of six years had moved to Secunda for work, so it was a relatively easy decision for him to pack his bags and relocate.

The knowledge Dr Moodley gained over the years through his formal studying include Pharmacy at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Bachelor of Science that he obtained at the University of Durban-Westville, as well as an Honours Degree in Biochemistry.

He however did not stop there.

Dr Moodley also studied medicine at the Medical University of South Africa.

As a child, he was always interested in science and knew he would one day choose a career in science, but his path became clearer during the final year of his pharmaceutical studies.

“I was driving to campus and I noticed a group of women on the side of the road surrounding someone.

I drove past but not to far down the road, my curiosity got the better of me, so I stopped,” said Dr Moodley.

As Dr Moodley began walking towards the women, he realised that one woman was highly pregnant and had gone into labour.

With the knowledge he had gained through his studies, he was able to deliver a healthy baby boy before the ambulance arrived.

That was the day Dr Moodley was exposed to what he would spend most of his life doing.

This year Dr Moodley took a leap and opened his own medical practice in the Secunda CBD, located accross from Transvalia Pharmacy.

Secunda-Med recently opened its doors with a special service added.

“You can only help the patient if you are with them,” said Dr Moodley, followed by the fact he does home visits for patients, within the TEKS-area.

Dr Moodley has taken on the retired Dr Ben Swart’s patient files.
