Agency launches education fund during gala event at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club in Secunda
The MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Eric Kholwane, gave the keynote address at the gala event.
SECUNDA – The Pixley ka Isaka Seme Education Fund and Charity was established through a golf day hosted by Ziyaphenduka Marketing and Events Logistics, and Brandhill Africa Foundation, on behalf of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club in Secunda recently.
Pixley ka Isaka Seme was one of South Africa’s first black lawyers and also founded the African National Congress in 1912.
The organisation named Ms Monnye Kunupi, a well known actress, the face of the charity golf day. Ms Kunupi is also a seasoned golfer in her own right with a healthy handicap.
The evening’s gala dinner progressed having raised R10 000 from AM Lodge and other sponsors who donated about R2 500 each.
An artist, Mr Nico Phooko, painted while the speeches were being said and dinner was being served, and later his painting was auctioned off for R12 500.
Mr Maxwell Vezi Seme paid tribute to his grandfather’s legacy and was humbled that there was recognition for him through the beginning of the charity.

The executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Ms Thandi Ngxonono, was present for the evenings event to represent the municipality’s support of the charity.
